Isolate first, always
Before touching the control box, isolate the boiler at the fused spur and lock off. Cap the gas if you are pulling the PCB for return. A 230 V shock from a live mains PCB is not worth a two-minute shortcut.
Where each brand prints the PCB number
PCB part numbers are almost never on the boiler data plate. They are printed on a small white sticker on the board itself.
- Worcester Bosch Greenstar: sticker on the top-right of the PCB behind the fascia. 8-digit number starting 8748…
- Vaillant ecoTEC plus/pro: on the underside of the black PCB housing. 10-digit code starting 0020…
- Baxi 800/EcoBlue: on the edge of the PCB, e.g. 720878301, 720873501.
- Ideal Logic/Vogue: 6-digit code on a silver label, typically 175934 or 176537.
- Glow-worm Ultimate/Energy: 0020 prefix, shared with Vaillant Group parts.
Superseded numbers and cross-references
Boiler PCBs are frequently superseded. A Worcester 87483004890 supersedes 87483004230, 87483004030 and earlier. Always order the latest number — the board firmware is different and older revisions will throw fault codes on newer heat exchangers.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to program the new PCB?
- Worcester and Vaillant PCBs ship pre-configured for the model range but you must reset the appliance code and re-enter the max central heating output. Ideal Logic PCBs auto-configure on first power-up.
- Are OEM and pattern PCBs interchangeable?
- No. Never fit a pattern PCB to a modulating condensing boiler. The gas valve control profile is model-specific and a non-OEM PCB voids the warranty and Gas Safe certification.
